Historical structural barriers have made access to the study and practice of the sciences more challenging for women. We are motivated to increase the presence of women in our field because we know that diverse perspectives are specifically connected to the achievement of excellence. This scholarship is open to all students, of any gender identity, who express an interest in helping to increase the success and representation of women in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry.
Because of the SMS Women in Science scholarship I’m encouraged and empowered to continue pursuing my research goals, and with the financial support of this scholarship, I can spend more time conducting laboratory research while balancing my academic workload."
